MP drops in on Bexhill Museum cream tea

I LOVE coming here, town MP Huw Merriman told volunteers when he dropped in at a fund-raising cream tea at Bexhill Museum on Friday, August 14th.

The event was the brainchild of museum volunteer and newly-appointed board of directors member Emma Tickner.

With the help of a team of colleagues, Emma prepared and served a splendid repast for visitors including strawberries and scones with cream and jam.

The MP was escorted at the event by the chairman of the independent, voluntarily-run museum, John Betts.

He went from table to table chatting with visitors and enquiring about the running of the Egerton Road museum, established 101 years ago.

He said: I came here before I was MP and I think it is absolutely fabulous. Its especially interesting to be here now I am MP.

I love coming here; particularly being MP because it gives me an opportunity to see work done in the constituency. What I am anxious to see is that we preserve where we need to preserve and enhance where we need to enhance in the legacy of the town.

The event, which included a raffle, raised 359.20 towards the running costs of the museum, which is almost entirely dependent on its admission charges for its income.

Emma praised everyone who gave generously to make the event a success. Already, she is planning a sale at the museum on Saturday, November 14 featuring Christmas gifts and items when the refreshments will include mince pies, Christmas cake and a non-alcoholic mulled punch.
