Movers and Shakers
Youth Performance and Exhibition Project, Bexhill Museum
Performance at the De La Warr Pavilion Auditorium on Saturday 29 March 2014
Exhibition at Bexhill Museum opening on Saturday 3 March 2014
Bexhill Museum will be celebrating their centenary next year, with a specially commissioned multi-media play to be performed at the De La Warr Pavilion on March 29 March 2014. ?Movers and Shakers’, funded by a £15,000 grant from the Arts Council, is a community participation project for young people, who will work alongside theatre director Stephen Israel and playwright Suzi Hopkins, to create a performance of drama, music and film.
The young people will be introduced to the museum’s extensive collection, and will research the stories of the founders and those who shaped the town of Bexhill, looking at some of the skeletons that have been hidden away in the museum’s closet for a hundred years!
The museum’s audience development project manager Rachel Heminway-Hurst stated ?The centenary is a really exciting time for the Museum and we are delighted to be working in partnership with the De La Warr Pavilion and Stephen and Suzi from The Company, to create a show that will tell our story.?
The spring performance will kick-off the series of events to celebrate the centenary of the independent, voluntarily run museum, which first opened its doors to the public on May 22, 1914. The programme will include an exhibition, with a documentary film about the creation of the youth performance, family holiday events and a summer open day, and fund-raising dinner.
