Performance Students bring 100 year old newspaper archives back to life at Bexhill Museum.
Due to the success of the Global Gathering youth project and exhibition that took place over the summer, Bexhill Museum has been awarded more funding to engage young people.
This new project is part of World Stories South East Stage 2 and funded by the Arts Council England Strategic Funds.
Newsflash is a partnership project working with DV8 Sussex in Bexhill. DV8 deliver creative training programmes, including BTEC qualifications and work experience for young people across East Sussex. Working with Level 1 and 2 Performance students, this project is running from October 2012 to March 2013.
The project will be embedded into the Level 1 and Level 2 Performance courses, and the young people will attend object handling and engagement workshops at the museum. Historic Newspaper archives from the museum’s collections will be used as inspiration and the young people will translate the stories into theatre and dance performances that will be presented to audiences at the Museum in December 2012 and March 2013.
The first site specific performance Bexhill Elementary will take place on 7th December and will be attended by secondary school drama students and an invited evening audience. The performance will feature a famous detective, scandal, murder and colourful local characters and include dance, drama and music performances.
Phase 2 of the project will start in January 2013 and will include a public performance in March, so watch this space for updates on the project and the performances!
